A couple of weekends before Christmas my mom invited us out to make Christmas cookies. Hyat looks to "make flour" (i.e. cookies, or anything that involves mixing ingredients), so we happily said yes. Plus, Hyat love play dough so what could be better than the real thing and getting to decorate them to boot. We headed out early one Saturday morning and set to work. Grandma didn't plan just plain 'ol sugar cookies. We had FIVE batches of cookies to make and decorate. We got rolling and I only got a few photos of the actual cookie making (oops)!
Somebody is ready for those cookies to get out of the oven.
The bread cloth was poor attempt to keep Hyat clean. Needless to say when we got done mixes a few batches Hyat was covered in flour from head to to. So he was stripped down to roos (a.k.a. underwear) and his undershirt. Well, every kid needs a picture of him with his t-shirt tucked into his or her roos, right?!?!?!
The day also included taking a break to wrestle with dad while mom and grandma baked away!
You may wonder where grandpa was in all this.... Well, we caught him napping while we slaved over cookies. All he wanted was to know when it was time to start taste testing! So, eventually, we shared a few with him (he got lucky)!
I think we backed cookies for almost 10 hours and that is not including the work my mom did the day before! All in all I call it success... we found some recipes we love and some we will probably never use again, but that is how it goes! Here would be a great place to post some pictures of our delicious and beautifully decorated cookies, but I failed to actually take a picture of our work... Oh, and I should also note, that a significant portion of Christmas cookies fell outside of the Christmas theme and included things like dinosaurs and circus animals - don't worry we threw in a few ginger bread men and snowflakes for good measure!
