Heading Home from Colorado!
All too soon our last day in Durango arrived. My mom left at the crack of dawn (if not earlier) to catch her plane to fly home. We started out the day with meeting the Hyder family for breakfast at Carvers. Mmmm-mmm-good! Then we packed up, said goodbye to my dad and hit the road. The traveling went pretty well and we made it to Layton, UT. Little did we know this would also be a popular destination and the first hotel we checked did not have any room. So we headed across the street and managed to get their last non-suite room. We're glad we didn't have to pay an arm and a leg for a place to stay. We grabbed a quick dinner and Hyat and I hit the pool, while Buck and Embrie played and got ready for bed.
The next morning we woke up and drove to Ashton, ID. We got there mid-afternoon, checked into our hotel room, stopped at a local fly shop, and headed out to fit in a little fishing. We checked out the Warm River and the Henry's Fork and after "exploring" (a.k.a. thinking our scouting for a place to fish was going to turn out better than it did) we found a nice spot to fish. Buck managed to catch a few and to help Hyat reel one in.
The Boys before fishing:
After Hyat, Embrie and I headed back to the truck to get a pre-dinner snack, while Buck cast a couple of more times (of course, as the kids got hungry and crabby - the fishing was getting good)!
While we were fishing, Buck was helping Hyat and I had Embrie in the backpack. We were hiking upstream and we had stopped so Buck and Hyat could fish. I took the backpack off (with Embrie still in it), so I could get the camera out and take some pictures of them. I don't really know what to say about this video.... Just wait for the end and you will see. . .
Really, we are pretty decent parents. . . we just have our moments - Like when I think it is a good idea to set the backpack down with Embrie in it and leave her there long enough for her to tip herself over.... Ooops! So really, just focus on Hyat's laugh and how dang excited he is to catch that fish. Oh, and don't worry, Embrie was okay.
The other bummer was that Embrie managed to break Hyat's fly rod. As we were getting ready to head out to fish I was walking around the back of the truck carrying Embrie and her little ninja hand grabbed the tip of his rod and snapped it right off! There is some strength in those little baby fingers.
We finished the day grabbing some burgers and eating in a park. Hyat had a blast running around and we would have enjoyed it quite a bit too if we hadn't been under constant attack by mosquitos! Those little buggers were thick!
